ASSA M
The Assam Plateau in northern India lies on both sides of the
Brahmaputra and is the largest contiguous tea-growing area in
the world. Around 2,000 gardens produce strong, aromatic and
spicy teas here. The region’s top teas delight tea connoisseurs
with their typical malty notes. Characteristic of Assam teas are
the golden-coloured tips and − depending on the variety − a more
or less “creamy” cup.
Assam teas are often used in strong blends, such as English and
East Frisian blends. Particularly popular and sought-after are the
teas from the second flush period, which have all the typical
characteristics that distinguish good Assam teas. Good and “longlasting” first flush Assam teas, on the other hand, are relatively
rare, as they tend to lose their fresh flavour quite quickly.
